Anti-Racism Policy Disability Services:
Building a Culturally Safe Environment
Why We Created This Policy

We recognise that racism, whether intentional or unconscious, interpersonal or systemic, undermines our vision of equity and violates the human rights of those we support and work alongside. Our policy aligns with the National Anti-Racism Framework (2024), which outl
ines a shared national vision for a future where all people in Australia are free from racial discrimination and inequality.
Guiding Principles
Zero tolerance for any form of racism: We do not accept racist behaviour, language, or decision-making in any setting, whether casual, formal, or systemic.
Cultural safety and humility: We create spaces that affirm people's cultural identities and histories while remaining open to learning and unlearning.
Listening to lived experience: We place the voices of people who have experienced racism at the centre of our decision-making and policy development.
Equity over equality: We acknowledge that treating everyone the same does not lead to fair outcomes and provide additional support to those historically marginalised.
Courageous conversations and accountability: We support our team to speak openly about racism and have clear processes for accountability.
How We Respond to Racism

Our trauma-informed approach focuses on safety, reconciliation, and accountability. Anyone can report racism through their supervisor, team leader, manager, or any member of leadership. All disclosures are treated seriously and respectfully, with the option for anonymous reporting.
We investigate all reports thoroughly, following our complaints process while keeping affected persons informed and offering appropriate supports throughout.
Prevention Through Education
We're committed to long-term cultural change through:
Comprehensive staff induction and ongoing training
Leadership accountability measures
Continuous improvement of policies and systems
Regular review and consultation with diverse communities
Our Commitment to Action

This policy is more than just words on paper—it represents our dedication to creating meaningful change. By implementing these principles in our daily operations, we strive to build an organisation where everyone's dignity and cultural identity are respected and celebrated.
Together, we can create a more inclusive, equitable world for all the people we support and work alongside.
